| Healing is Not Just About Being Cured ...
|
"Healing is not just about being cured. You can be cured and not healed. Healing is in the heart and soul."
- Pat Lynn Moses
Our Philosophy
At Iowa Blood and Cancer Care (IBACC) our care is focused on fostering hope, and thus healing, in each person. We understand that after a diagnosis of cancer, people need an environment that promotes trust and confidence, as well as a source of relief. We strive to be that place for all who entrust us with a portion of their lives.
Our Staff
Our staff of male and female physicians are board certified in Hematology, Oncology and Internal Medicine, and are designated clinical investigators by the National Cancer Institute. They are supported by nurse practitioners and certified nursing staff.
All our professional staff are highly trained and IBACC supports ongoing training for all of our staff.
Our entire staff, from physicians, to nurses, to support staff, are part of our practice because of a shared commitment to providing a comfortable, supportive atmosphere for our patients in addition to the very best facilities, equipment, and treatment methods.
Our Standards
We believe that every patient should receive care based on current, nationally recognized standards. As a result, our treatment plans are well defined and referenced against standards from the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). Our patients and their families can feel confident that they are receiving the most current treatment available here in their own community.

| Reducing Risks of Cancer Through Nutrition |
You can reduce your risk of developing cancer by following good habits of diet and exercise and by keeping your weight within the normal range for your height.
Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day, and try to meet this requirement by consuming a variety in order to meet your body’s nutritional requirements.
To minimize your risk of developing cancer, follow these guidelines:
- Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
- Eat at least 3 servings of whole-grain bread, rice, pasta and cereal every day.
- Maintain a healthy weight for your height. (see nhlbisupport.com)
- Get at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on 5 or more days each week.
- Consume reduced-fat or fat-free dairy products.
- Avoid processed and red meat (such as bacon, hot dogs, sausage, steak, ground beef, pork, or lamb).
- Minimize consumption of high-calorie, low-nutrient foods such as pies, cakes, cookies, ice cream, candy, chips and doughnuts.
- Avoid adding butter, margarine, oil, sour cream or mayonnaise to foods.
- Avoid fried foods, especially battered, deep fat fried.
- If you drink alcohol, limit it to one drink per day.
