In 1906, a young Lithuanian immigrant named Morris Edelstein arrived at Ellis Island with so many others. From New York, fate led him to Texas where he hopped aboard the southernmost railway connecting little know Brownsville, Texas to the rest of the country.
He was eager to start a business and did so by going directly to the community door to door peddling a variety of wares in Brownsville. He was the first merchant in the area to offer “time payment plans” on a variety of merchandise he sold (Records indicate that Morris Edelstein was the first ever to offer payment plans to customers). Thus began the birth of “In House Financing” that thousands of businesses offer all over the world.
The family, who still bear the Edelstein’s name, has now been operating, successfully here in the Valley for over 100 years.
